FoShoSho makes free CVs for workers. People they worked for can give references. We need some information to do this. This page says what we keep, what we show, and what stays private.
A computer helps us. It reads your WhatsApp messages, turns voice notes into text, and finds details for your CV. Most of the time no person reads your messages. A person helps with complaints, safety problems, ID checks, and CV checks.
Your CV only goes online after you tap YES. You can ask a person to check anything the computer did. Just message us. You can also ask us to hide or delete your CV at any time.
What we collect
If you are a worker:
- Your name and the name you want on your CV
- Your WhatsApp number
- Your type of work, areas, days, skills, languages and experience
- A photo, only if you want one
- The references you ask us to check
- Your email address, if you gave us one
If you give a reference: your name, your phone number, how you know the worker, and what work they did for you.
If you are hiring: your name, your WhatsApp number, your area and what help you need.
What goes on your public CV
Only what the worker says yes to: display name, photo (optional), type of work, areas, days, skills, languages, experience, and words like "2 references checked".
What we never show anyone
- Reference phone numbers
- Employer names or private details
- ID numbers or documents
- Private notes from reference checks
- Home addresses
Your CV is your choice
- Your CV only goes online after you say yes on WhatsApp.
- You can hide or remove your CV with one WhatsApp message.
- If you say no, or stop replying before your CV is ready, we delete those details within 30 days.
Where your information is kept
Our main records are stored with Google Cloud in Johannesburg, South Africa. Some supporting tools may store information outside South Africa. POPIA has rules for this. We use services that promise to protect your information.
ID checks (optional)
If you choose to add "ID checked" to your CV, we ask for a photo of your ID or passport and a selfie. A real person checks that they match. We use a computer tool to read the name from the document. It must not read your nationality, ID number or date of birth, and we never store those. We keep the ID photo and selfie securely as our private record that the check was done — they are stored in South Africa, never shown on your CV or to anyone looking at it, and used only for this check. This is optional. You can have a CV without it, and you can ask us to delete your documents at any time.
Emails we send
If you gave us your email address, we may email you about CVs — for example to tell you that you can make one, or that something about yours has changed. We do not email you adverts for other companies, and we never give or sell your address to anyone else.
Every email we send has a "Stop these emails" link at the bottom. Tap it once and we stop, free, with nothing to fill in. You can also just message us on WhatsApp and ask. Stopping emails does not change your CV or your WhatsApp messages. Those carry on exactly as before.
We use an email company called Resend to send them, so they see your email address. They may store it outside South Africa. We also count how many people tapped the button in an email, so we know whether the email was useful.
Cookies and analytics
Our web pages, including public CVs, use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It uses cookies and sends usage information (like pages visited and device type) to Google, which may store it outside South Africa. It never sees your WhatsApp messages, and it does not change what is shown on a CV.
On CVs we also count visits and button taps ourselves. We use those counts to tell the worker how their CV is doing.
What we never do
- We never sell your information.
- We never make workers pay to be seen.
- We never share reference details with employers or households.
Your rights
You can ask us any time to show you, fix, or delete the information we have about you. Just send us a WhatsApp message. This is your right under POPIA, South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act.
